LOCALS: Sam Carrat
23 August 2012 | By AngusMcIntosh | 1 CommentIn our new weekly feature, we are getting out and about on the trails to meet everyday locals and find out a bit more about them and their bikes.
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
Name: Sam Carrat
Age: 21
Location: Exeter
Job: Forest Cycle Hire
Bike: Commencal Supreme DH
How long have you been riding?
Probably seriously about 3 years now?
How often do you ride?
Not enough at the moment!! But probably a couple of times a week.
What bike are you currently riding and talk us through your set up??
I ride a Commencal Supreme DH with Rockshox Boxxer R2C2 forks up front and a Fox RC4 shock. It's got Shimano XT brakes and a pair of Shimano Saint cranks on there aswell. You can adjust the headangle on the frame by changing a shim inside the headtube to make it 1 degree slacker but I have left it in its standard position for the meantime.
What types of riding do you normally do?
I ride mainly downhill but I try and do a bit of trail riding around the tracks up here after work.
What was the last new bit of gear on your bike?
I don't think I've had any new bits. I built it all together at the same time and theres nothing really anything that new on it. The frame was probably the last to arrive though.
What are your local trails?
My local trails are here at Haldon. I ride on the cafe side up here as well.
Whats Your favourite part on the bike?
My favourite part on the bike is the rear shock. The Fox RC4 now I've finally got it set up and working properly.
Next upgrade planned for the bike?
I was thinking about changing my tyres from the Maxxis High Rollers on here at the moment to some Schwalbe Muddy Marys. I've heard there just an all round great intermediate tyre.
What other bikes do you own?
I don't own any other bikes at the moment but I do have access to the entire stock of bikes up here at the Forest Cycle Hire if I fancy a trail ride.
